In a time of mass commercialism, the general public has been slowly developing a thirst for the unreachable. The next step in the evolution of music is a venture from the ordinary into the unknown.
Toast is dedicated to all spaces of music. Tightly written arrangements having multiple movements and socially-driven lyrics are complemented by acid-jazz improvisations having no origin other than the room in which they were created. Multi-instrumentation, syncopation, and exploration help Toast develop a rhythm that transcends and endears to the common heart.
Starting off in the multicultral city of El Paso Texas, Toast has been roughing gigs such as the County Colliseum and the after-party-band at the Red Bull Rock Jam. They recorded their first album with Mike Majors (Mars Volta), and Joey Cazares (Ministry). In their live settings, Toast continued to always "call up" the next musician who felt they had something to offer to the jam.
Toast is James Pate, Russell Dobda, John Brown, and Enzo Loechel. A trio that lasted for 12 years was blessed with the addition of a keyboardist/saxophonist in the fall of 2006. Fresh meat from Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and parts in between, Russ came like an angel when Toast was auditioning another keyboardist in their garage. Sparks were made, and everlasting friendships were sealed. Toast would never be the same.
Over the years, Toast has played all of El Paso, and much of Austin. Making sure that the audience is the primary focus of their performance, Toast has developed a communal participation of each audience member in each performance. Inviting the best players in town to join them, Toast reaches levels of organized chaos and embraces all types of music, and all types of personalities. Toast continues to reach out to the listener who wants to hear the next step of musical evolution, as well as see a new show every night. With a growing light show and complex movie projector arrangements, Toast is changing the music scene as we speak.
